Next blank canvas goes onto the easel. I'm using a pre-stretched canvas, 40x30cm, with a couple of extra coats of gesso.
This will be a wintery scene at Maldon, Essex. A jumble of boats moored at the river's edge, the tide is full and water surface flat calm.
Using very thin oil paint (raw sienna) the main composition has been laid out, using a thin chisel brush.
The previous painting all at various stages below...
"Rusty Anchor", Pin Mill, Suffolk:
Oil painting on a 40x30cm canvas.
The low tide exposes the stone-lined channel, rusty anchor and the colourful vegetation allow the banks of the River Orwell, Suffolk.
Pin Mill is a popular spot along the estuary and the boatyard pokes into the picture on the left.
